wee doggie,
thanks for the advise, that definately sounds like the way to go. the 302 is definately going in the cj5 but, will the off set diff axles handle the power of a warm 302 with a locker and 35inch tires? i would have liked to find a later model front diff with the open knuckles also.
as for the carby, i will probably go with something around the 600cfm mark. i dont give a shit about fuel economy, i wont be driving the car every day and fuel is expensive no mater what you drive.
i will be looking into what it will take to swap the internals of the diff around and the brakes. Great idea mate.

My tired old AMC 360 with detroit locker and 35s breaks 30 spline flanged d44 axles so yes you will probably break the offset ones. Make sure the nuts on the axles are done up tight check them regularly and you should be able to make them last. This will give you time to save up to buy something better. I don't know what, but if you can control the nut behind the wheel maybe after market flanged offset axles would do or the Warn full floater if money is no object. As for carbys my 2 barrel runs great at all angles which is my first priority it's a stock Cherokee 360 carb I think it's a motorcraft which will probably work well with your Ford motor. There has been some open knuckle fronts in the for sale forum but you may not get the ratio you want (more bucks). Good luck, and if you need any more advice I'm full of it.
