Brilliant vehicle, just that things don't seem to be they should be...transfer lever, 12v socket in the dash, blinker control, even the seating position leaves a little to be desired.
i am one of those poor guys who have had the
engine failuer even with that i wouldnt change it for any thing else

4WDDig, I noticed that the update models have a 12 v socket in the dash (not the lighter socket)..Transfer lever ?? All the XJ's i've test driven have a really stiff 4x4 transfer lever, and one wouldnt come out of 4x4 until the trans was put into reverse for a metre or so...

Murray..what happened to your engine..??

The 99 Sport sounds a little overpriced, but the others don't sound too bad. I got my 01 Classic about 6mths ago for $14k with 130k on the clock and a somewhat patchy service history.

ps... Some others that I have test driven seem to get a front end suspension wobble when you hit bumps in the road (side to side wobble) and others seem ok.. I guess the shocks on the wobblers are stuffed...Have you guys had problems with front ends ??
Can't say I've noticed that on mine, but I just recently whacked a 2" OME lift under mine and very happy with it.

Yeah mine has two ciggie sockets - one for a ciggie lighter (ignition switched) and one that is always on 12V.

My transfer case pops in and out fairly easily - now and then it might take one or two goes to get it from 4WD FT to 2WD .. some times it gets stuck in 4WD PT ... but I've never had to reverse up or anything like that ...

my neighbor has an '02? Patrol with the td, minor lift and a tray...i was able to keep up with him on the sand hill climbs back when i had a worn stock suspension and cheap street tires...since the lift ive been able to do stuff i never could before and surprise all the doubters so do the lift but id go at least 3"...my transfer is pretty easy to get in and out and i think its somewhat normal to either need to lift the throttle or shift to N momentarilly to get out of 4wd but usually can do it on the fly....the 2000 sport sounds like a good deal (low miles and all)...unless youre intent on having a newer wrig you should be able to find a decent 97 and down model for under $9500 if you look hard enough ($3000 will buy you a lot of goodies/maintenance and minor repairs which will have to be done eventually anyways)

murray - you must have the most told story on here lol....u keep that link handy at all times dont you? my hat is off to you for being one of the most loyal jeep owners i know - cheers buddy
