that is a good point to consider jake...im in the process of opening up the z89a to see exactly how much oil the anti drain back would keep in there...i tipped the full filter upside down for one day and drained as much as possible this way before cutting it open. after making one cut lengthwise down the side of the filter to the center of the housing with the filter right side up (vertical) approximately 1.5 cups of oil continued to drain out for several minutes...this is nearly the entire capacity (not just half) of the filter downstream of the element so it will hold quite a bit even if its inverted upside down let alone sideways....pics to come

As pointed out, the petrols are not vertical but sideways. The anti drain back valve will leave the filter completely full as it is run under pressure from the oil pump. You can see that every time you remove the filter, oil starts to drain out as soon as you begin to unscrew it while it is still horizontal. Having the Z9 on there would have a bit over half draining back into the sump. Not could for each and every start up.

Well I contacted Ryco direct and got this reply: Hi Marcus,

Both of these filters have an anti-drain back valve

Kinda figured Z9 did, cos when I checked them out last weekend it said so on the box as far as I can recall.

I'm happy too as will use these Z9's from now on. I can get them for less than 1/2 price of the others but doing it mainly for the extra oil and filter capacity.
