If you removed bolts from both mounts I can see no problem with jacking sideways as long as hoses aren't attached etc...

the answer is no.. that manifold isn't coming out until I undo the head bolts... the steering shaft is in the way. Nothing on it in the manual I have...

Need to buy an M14 spine bit socket for the head bolts and a 24mm(I'm guessing.. can anyone confirm?) deep well socket for the injectors now.

Sounds like a mountain of a job! How long do you think you will have it off the road for?

My push rods were popping out of the rockers when the Jeep was sitting overnight/all day. I got sick of having to take off the rocker cover and put them back in, so I decided to fix it properly. To do that it looks like I'll have to change some cam followers/lifters + push rod clips. I've found a source for these parts, I just need to get in there and see how many I need now

Enjoying it, just doing a couple of hours after work each night, its all nuts n bolts, nothing too tricky, I'm learning lots about this particular model of engine and I've had no rounded off/rusted bolt heads so far (touch wood). Even if I get stuck-ish there is plenty of other stuff to do, last night for example I had another look at removing the manifold but it wasn't happening, so removed, labelled and bagged the rocker assemblies + pushrods + rocker oil feed pipes. Then took off the rad cross member + removed the rad.

Slowly slowly... will get there in the end I hope...

Need to put my W123 Estate back on the road for the Missus to get around in while she's waiting on it tho
