Why not just use a rear basket that mount's to ya roll bar's to carry ya wheel ?

A few reasons:

1) I want to keep the tyre as low as possible to keep rear mirror visibility

2) I prefer a hard top to keep my tools safe from quick fingers. I keep all my recovery gear, metric & imperial toolsets, and other expensive items in there.

3) I prefer the hard top to keep my tools from bouncing out when I drive a bit vigorously. I bounced out my sling & shackle bag yesterday.

4) I think the clean lines will look cool

Pretty much finished this off now.

Got the spare mounted up on a pedestal, with 3 wheel studs to hold it down like the original carrier.

Bounced the bejesus out of it tonight and nothing came off, so thats a pass in my book.

Photos are poor quality but you get the jist of it.







Next step planned is to build some slide out drawers to fit the full 'tray'.

Need better pics... is it colour coded or is it steel colour?... What are those rings around the roll bar?... Looks good so far!
