Not impressed with the 20k's to empty light on the dash, most cars I have driven, the picture of a bloke with his finger in his ear comes on with about 80ks to go.

A lot more usefull than 20ks, compounded by the fact that the first half of a tank is shown as a bit over 2/3 on the gauge....I reckno you could drive further with the needle on full, than you could for the last half as shown on th gauge.

So you have only got about 20kms range when the light comes on? that is not good

What is the correlation with the distance to empty on the trip computer? I had my fuel light come on when I had about 10km distance to empty???

I've run my Commander several times until the "Distance to empty" display says "0 km to empty" and then gone into a servo to fuel up. At "0 km to empty" I can't fit more than about 70 litres into the tank. With an 80 litres tank, that means there's at least 10 litres still in the tank when the "0 km to empty" comes up. At 10 l/100 km that means 100 km left and at 20 l/100 km it's still 50 km left. This assumes the entire contents of the tank are available before you actually run out of fuel.

Default Fuel tank capacity in diesel CRD

I ran my WH into a servo last week with 0ks to MT on my dash,,, then filled it with 76.4 litres,,, it took a while to get the last 3-4 litres in,,, so I think there must still be about 5 litres left in the tank when 0 on dash??????
Maybe I will run it dry one day and see what happens,,,
Carrying a spare 5 litre can with me!

try filling up when you get to quarter tank or carry a can of fuel for emergencies. then none of this will ever be a bother.

Just got back from our trip to Darwin and can report that the extra 110 litres on board was very useful, especially to avoid filling up at Kings Canyon ($2.40/litre). We had a few instances where we did around 1000kms between fills - this is towing, so would get more without the anchor on the back and there were also quite a few days in the NT when we sat on 120kms/hr all day. Drove from Marlborough (about an hour north of Rockhampton) down to Goondiwindi without a single stop, which was excellent.
Had no problems with the tyre on the roofrack. Never moved, even when we did a couple of hundred kms of very corrugated (and bumpy) roads on the Meerenie Loop, from Kings Canyon to Alice Springs.
As mentioned previously, just have to avoid undercover car parks when the tyre is up there.

I can confirm the fuel tank is definitely 83L. Heading across the Hay plain I pulled into Balranald after being on empty for a while and put in 82.45L.
