Thanks Matt - I think it is well and truly fried - it has spent its life mustering cattle on a property way out west. Thanks for the numbers - I'll look into these and keep looking for a spare.

Purchased one of these just recently, haven't even moved it to the home it is going to have until I get it fixed up.

Previous owner ripped out the engine, transmission and transfer case.

I heard this might have been a good thing, so I'm going back with Toyota diesel engine, transmission and transfer case.

Only problem I'm having right now, is attempting to figure out something and hoped one of you might have an idea.

The Jeep obviously came with two fuel tank fill points or so it seems to me. So, are the tanks apart from one another or are they combined, perhaps with a baffle of some type in between or what...if someone could get a photo of what the two tanks look like (if it is two tanks) I'd appreciate it. Also, if there was some type of switch, if one was a primary and one a reserve, or if second one drained into the first as it emptied?

I'd like to know what came originally. My step dad had an old Willy's and it had one tank under the passenger seat, and I believe his was a CJ3B (I was born and raised in the US). I don't think I ever saw a older Willy's with two fuel points, so I'm a bit iffy on what is actually happening.

As an alternative to toyota motors ... Daihatsu Diesel 2.5l DG and 2.8l DL (later ones factory turboed) , gearbox & T/Fer case might be a good option unless you are looking at current series engines.

Well, going to pick the Jeep up tomorrow and drag it to its resting place while I tinker on it.

This weekend, going up to Brissy and picking up a 2L (2.4L) with DTS turbo, gearbox and transfer and drag it back down.

Then the fun will begin...I think.

Carves and Tiny, thanks for the input, most appreciated. I actually went for an older engine, mainly due to cost at this point in time. I might try getting something a bit bigger (and newish...with all the electronic stuff that goes along with it) in the future. Depends on how well the Jeep goes with what I'm putting in (and how confident I get in my mechanical skills).

However, I love my Toyota (1998 Dual Cab 3.0 litre) almost as much as I love Jeeps.

So, I've got the best of both worlds, Jeep looks, Toyota powered.
