I believe the claim is that the caliper puts uneven pressure on the pad causing uneven rotor wear.
In my case tho ,the piston dust boots were perished allowing water in, which caused rust buildup & made the pistons sticky.They were so bad that I couldnt get them back in with a large g-clamp.
This caused excessive heat buildup in the rotor ,also recent playing in the mud had blocked all the cooling vanes which was a contributing factor as was the fact that the discs were already getting thin.
I think if looked after properly the calipers should be OK , time will tell i guess.
