I removed the original rails and modified some rhino rack bars to sit on the existing plastic spacers. Bit of mucking around at the rails are curved, was going to curve the rhino rails but couldnt get access to a bender before the last trip, so i just trimmed the lower edges so it stayed flat.

Longer bolts into existing mounts. Then I fitted a rola Vortex XL roof basket using some ezystrut saddles. I modified the saddles so that the basket was held to the rails without flattening out the rails as mentioned earlier. Ill grab some picks in the morn and upload.

Ive run all through the fraser tracks (not hardcore but bumpy enough) with 2 jerrys on the roof, the spare and the gas bottle. I dont put heavy items in the front area (the main reason i need the space is a pair of 6mths old twins) so all the light stuff of theirs goes in a roof bag on the front.

This rack in combination with the drawers i made means we can actually take their twin pram (which takes up over half the boot space on it own) away with us.

Default WH Roof Rack

Thanks for the contributions guys,

I have attached a couple of photos of my installed rack and those large "nuts" that are screwed down to position the Jeep OEM crossbars that came with my vehicle.
It also shows the basket wire cut out to go around the "nuts" (knobs) and of course repaint.

As I said in an earlier post, make sure you lift the tailgate when installing the basket to ensure it clears. The Rhino basket is approx 1600x1200 MM.

Hi Guys, Rhino make heavy duty cross rails with an alloy basket that is substantially larger and heavier duty than than the original jeep basket. I've replaced my originaly cross bars and basket and had no problems. Last trip had 40L of water and petrol up there plus other stuff. Looks good too.
