i think patrol diffs may be an issue to fit as the pumpkin is offset to the right alot and the pumpkin will probably be in the way of where the spring perch should go so danas,currie9s or toyota a toyota 80 series front diff and nissan rear diff may be easier to fit but if you dont want to widen the track you are going to limit your choice of diffs alot unless you use the oe diffs or similar otherwise get a 9 inch built for the rear to the same wms to wms as a the stock diff as i will probbly end up costing the same as doin up the oe diff and load your d30 with chromo axles and warn hubs .

bonus about going to nissan or toyo diffs is the braking capacity is alot better than the junk that comes standard on jeeps .

personally i would use a t700 unless you plan on having a rediculously powerful motor as the over drive gear is ace and will allow you to run a lowish diff gear ie 4.88 so it will take off well with 35inch plus tyres .

asfor the suspension also consider a shackle reversal at the front aswell as it improes the onroad ride of leaf sprung vehicles . or convert it to coil using a 5 link front 4 link rear or use 80 series or range rover radius arms front and back to keep the cost down ( has been done on other vehicles before ) .

just food for thought

FJ diffs fit within a 1/2" of the spring perches. Hilux could possibly also work. But as Flexy said, The pumpkin is in the way (hence the extreme height quote)

You need to work out what you want, trail beast, reco, rock crawler, something different... You could go all out and get mogs if you wanted, that would suppress the LCOG stuff, but then you'd have to either link it or do some extreme calculations regarding SUA/SOA!!!

Just find a 44/60 combo, outboard the springs and be done with it. i should have gone this route, but ho hum!!!

AMC 20 is 8 & 7/8s so for the cost of building a 9 in you could do the worx to that thing.

you can buy a 9 inch from gj diffs for 3300 inc ratio of choice wms to wms of choice including a detroit locker .

by the time you do ratios , axles etc you will be pusing up towards that point anyway .

i have read on some of the us sites that amc 20 needs an extrenal truss the axle tubes can rotate if you put to much grunt through them i am not sure how true this is as i have never owned one though so it could be hear say or truth but i will let someone with more knowledge answer that one

there was a hpd 44 on ebay for $350 in 4.1 ratios and all the steering arms
and supa f spares were selling complete 9 inch diffs for $450 but the problem is these diffs are 65 inchs wide and maz doesnt want a wide track and if he did go down this route he wont be able to run the mt classic 2s he wants due to the offset of those wheels on wide diffs he would need rediculous flares to cover them

How wide would the d44/60 combo be? What would they come from? How about cutting them down?

Didn't stop that CJ7 in jeep action a while ago. That thing was HIDEOUS!! Coilover towers through the bonnet and flying Nun flares... Just looked cack!

So he's looking for narrow track diffs for the 8??? I might know someone who has a set of narrow 30/amc20 from an early upgraded D300 narrow track.

Yes, The AMC 20 needs an external truss and puddle welds to stop them from spinning. They are a crap design, but with some modifications, can he hellish strong!
