Re the cruise control, does the dash light still come on when you switch it on, but just not hold the speed when you press set?

I had this problem a couple months ago. Light came on, but just wouldn't hold the speed. As cmohr said, it was a simple vacuum issue, with the hose having rubbed through on something. About $100 (parts + labour) from the dealership to fix.

Good luck. It's all part of handing over your pride and joy to a workshop mechanic that doesn't really pay too much attention. It seems every time I put mine in for a service or repair, something else comes back wrong.....irrespective of whether its a local mechanic, reputable one or dealer....drives me nuts, but there isn't a whole lot you can do about it I guess.

My last service, done by a reputable mechanic had wrong size air filter and incorrect size brake pads.

Last mod was also done by a reputable place and came back with bash trays screws VERY loose and unless my wife hasn't admitted something to me (she drives it like once per week, so confident it's not hers), a small white scratch and dent right at the bottom of one of the doors, close to the sills.

What do you do? Take photos of every inch of the car pre and post inspection?

Thanks again Loric.. have taken that on board and will do a few checks as you suggest.

Yep, DK I feel your pain!! I think it is that lack of regard and respect that really irks you

Again the great thing is being able to draw on the wealth of advice here on the forum - fantastic support

Cheers,
Elle

why do you guys even go to jeep dealerships ?

i never see a thread praising them just complaining .

surely it would be easier to just do it yourselves so then you
only have yourself to blame .

this would be why,
".... apart from doing it yourself (of which I am not personally capable would have to impose that on my better half who is not that keen on doing such a major service).

i agree you are better off doing it your self if you have the ability tools and place to do these things

sounds to me like you have a good opportunity to get the dealer to do the pullies at no labour cost to you and use cheap parts that you supply, sounds like win win for you .

"How do you know they have been changed? "
Do what my Dad does and his Dad did before him, before you leave your car there with them, mark the belt with a bit of whiteout. then when you pick it up look for the whiteout.
Dont know if it works with these newer cars though... just a thought.

Could that be why Jeeps don't have the best reputation or resale value????

It's not the quality of the vehicle but the dealerships that are unreliable

Yet in saying that... I have had a lousy experience owning a diesel Toyota and the dealership was devious to say the least. That was some time ago & I honestly thought in general that cars and servicing had improved with the checks & technology now in place. But you can't stop people from taking short cuts for whatever reason.

Hmmm bit hard doing that on the 'cam' belt. The accessories belt is the one you can see... the cambelt (timing) is behind a cover.

We did what Loric suggested and checked out the nuts that hold the cover to see if the cover had been removed - and there were indicators that it had been removed - bright edges on the nuts of the coverplate and dust that had been rubbed off at the top of the cover - so it pays to be observant I guess.

Thanks, Elle
