The Jeep one I had with my WG was a full factory warranty for 6 years or 160,000k; I don't know what happens after that though. But I guess there must be a point where a full factory warranty would not be entertained once a certain mileage is achieved no matter what insurance company is involved because the risk to the insurance company becomes greater.

Default Extended warranty - I've decided on a gameplan!

Thanks Gentlemen.
This has been most informative and helpful... although sometimes confusing too.
What I've concluded - on balance - is that a Swann extended NCW warranty is the way to go... there's just so 'kun much on the Overland that can go wrong, and none of it sounds cheap!**
I reasoned that I bought the car at a good discount so shouldn’t skimp on the warranty.
I've requested the product disclosure details from Swann, and will fine-tooth-comb it - as advised universally.
Once again, thanks to all for contributions.
For someone new to the AJOR forum, it's very welcoming to find so many willing to share their advice & experiences.
- JazzieGuy -

**A mate told me that there's 28kms of wiring on the Overland... did he mean 8km? Still, a lot either way.

My ZG for the last 100,000K other than normal service stuff has cost me 1 x O2 sensor $130, Auto repair $1,200, water pump $85 a CV Boot $22. Non gen parts used, am I lucky as I don't seem to have the probs a lot of blokes seem to have, I dunno, must have a Tuesday vehicle, I do the work myself though and I'm not a mechanic just a truckie and find the Jeep a great vehicle to work on. Only ever had one extended warranty and it was a dud, but then I don't trust dealerships.

Angry

Just looking at the Swann Insurance extended warranty now (April 2011)
Quotes from a Jeep dealer -
5 star covers all electrical plus mechanical 24months 100,00 Km = $3280
4 star excludes electrical but covers mechanical 24months 100,000 Km = $1870
4 star mechanical 36 months 100,000 Km = $2395

In all the above cases there are some exclusions - Rims/Tyres/Battery/Fluids etc

Having said that a swirl motor "job" on a CRD is close to $2000 and I am just arranging to have my front diff rebuilt under warranty, the rear failed 12 months ago.

Aclnowledging that Jeep parts are definitely NOT cheap, this would pay for itself!!!

EDIT 14APRIL2011 further to this Jeep Extended Factory Warranty to 175,000 Km on the clock or 2 years, whichever comes first $2265.

Keep an eye out on my upcoming post re my trials and tribulations getting my diff repaired under warranty.

I had one and it did pay for itself easily. Admittedly Swann WILL try to screw you around. For that reason, I'd suggest the 5 star warranty, less chance they can blame a mechanical problem on some type of not-covered electrical fault

I've got it,the 5 star warranty, but mine is 4 years or 200,000k's with a $100 excess and that cost me $3,600 and what with a swirl motor and crankangle censor and a front diff mount it's already paid for itself and i still have over 2 years or 120,000k's left.

And yes Swann will dick you around but i leave that to the dealer.
