2003 Dean, If you want to wake up the tiger buried there in the diesel's capability, fit an iDrive if you haven't already. Very effective across the whole speed/rev band, not just from a standing start. Improved acceleration when overtaking mid range (80/90/100) amazed me.

Tootling along at 75kph the little old lady was happy as larry, oblivious to the big line of traffic behind her, I was first in line and soon as I saw a chance the oil burner went from 75kph and alongside at 130, ducked back in well before the next car in line had even started to change lanes, more than enough grunt for me ........ I do love doing the space launch overtake............. its not too bad with the 23ft'r tucked in behind but we do it slightly more sedately.

Hi SC, I have an IDrive fitted and it does take away some of the throttle lag you mention.
I had also taken out the turbo resonator and have fitted a snorkle with a K & N filter to assist the cold air flow in.
I am getting a new 3" stainless exhaust fitted next week to help the gases get out, and then plan to have Stu Murchison do a tune on the ECU.

That should I hope wake it up a bit more...be interesting too to see if the mods do anything for fuel consumption?

Big hemi fan here. It wasn't by accident I bought the V8.

As for fuel the wk's saw a huge jump in inovations for the hemi around fuel consumption. Wk has mds (shuts down 4cylinders for cruising). New eco mode (automatically engages an disengages without driver input. Plus the vvt

The vvt was a much bigger step forward than give it credit for imo. The motor makes so much more torque down low but at 3500 rpm when it retards the cam timing you can hear the exhaust note change and it squats the tail back down and takes off again.

I too choose the hemi for towing and general driving due to it being so smooth and well mannered around town but when I want to overtake that vvt cuts in right about where the diesel signs out and it just keeps on charging.

Watch this right through and all your questions will be answered. I tow heavy and this comparison shows my own real world experience also.

Not trying to say diesel are no good for towing but the hemi gets continually dismissed as towing option and to me it seems to be just because of a bias towards it being an old school push rod motor. This ain't a V8 from the 60's I'm am genuinely supprised by it's versatility.

For the record I have owned plenty of much more powerful V8's than this hemi in my GC, the difference is none of them naturally aspirated could doordle around on soccer mum duties on a stock converter like this thing does.
