I just bit the bullet

Went to the dealer bought 3 bottles of Chrysler/Jeep M-1038 fluid $98 and flushed the Penrite out of it only needed 2 got one spare for next time

The genuine fluid has no colour clear like water so whatever was in it before deciding to change it god only knows either that or it was dirty looked gold in colour

I just feel safer now not going to trust aftermarket unless its specified for it learned my lesson with the transfer case

The 2.7 has the hydraulic fan/power steering and it uses MS 5931 which the Penrite PAS is compatiable but I changed mine using MS 10838, then later on found I'd stuffed up so stayed with it for fear of changing back may stuff the seals but since the Mopar is no more expensive than others, what the heck. MS 10838 is backwards compat but 5931 is not the otherway.

I won't use aftermarket fluids unless it is absolutely clear that it complies with the vehicles specs, engine oils are probably the easiest to find there are plenty around now that have C3. With the transfer case Penrite, LiquiMoly, Nulon specify their ATF product, Castrol refers to dealer. Jeep specify Mopar NV247/245 which is not the same as ATF. I won't take any chances with fluids so straight to dealer for transfer case and ATF servicing

I haven't had a reply from Penrite yet regarding their PAS fluid compatibility with MS- 10838

roscoea, you would good using the Mobil 424 in your TC, heaps of us use it, I've run up over 100,000k using it and with a $50 per lt price difference, well. It has been noted also that some dealers use it. To date I haven't found anything compatable with MS10838 But there must be, as it's only a relabelled product, Mopar doesn't produce it's own fluids, just a matter of tracking it down.

I am now thinking that Pennzoil & Shell may be the source as they list them in Chrysler's own tech bulletin.

Thanks for that I haven't heard of Mobil 424 before I'll check it out. I've given up looking for something that is MS10838 compatible at the end of the day I can get a bottle from USA for a good price and postage isn't that much when I combine it with some oil/fuel filters etc.
