Many thanks to all who took the time to reply to my query, and yes, I still plan to go ahead with the purchase. I plan to do most if not all work (excluding machining / welding) myself, having previously owned a Kombi, that required both cylinder head(s) and gear box work, but was good for many years after that. Oil temperature was the limiting factor with this, but now I need to look into what the best method of monitoring coolant / ATF / whatever temp in the XJ is. Regards, Jazz..
