Nice welding on the hitch, you've done this before?

Following this closely, what profile steel are you using, first glance it was RHS, but on closer inspection looks like it has a channel, might just be the picks.

XJROB - As first planned 65x35x2.5 RHS, no channel might just be the join from the steel mill. The two cross beams are right angled 30x30x3.

For anyone looking for some inspiration have a look at expedition portal.

Not doing anything on the trailer today. Spent the morning sanding and putting a first coat on the deck. Cricket is keeping me busy this arvo.

Almost - Just need to put a top coat on I wish. I did however pick up some pinch weld rubber edgeing to go around the recesses cut for the tail lights. Lights will fit like a glove. Can't believe the range of products at Clarke rubber holly smoke - I love the place.

Finally, the aluminium tread plate will be ready to be collected tomorrow. Will now be 3mm thick. The aluminium place couldn't get 2.4m x 1.5m or 3m x 1.5m sheets in due to a shortage. So I ordered a 3.6m x 1.5m sheet. It will be cut in half. Due to the size of the sheet coming instead of making the box 1830mm long it will now be 1799mm long (cut in half). So box will now be 2cm shorter so I can use the single sheet for the base and three sides.

Also picked up some hubs. The rims I was hoping to grab have fallen through. If anyone has some 15" x 7" or 16" x 7" alloy rims I need three. Otherwise I will pick some up from the wreckers.

Excuse the show pony. Getting his energy back after a nip from a hunting dog. Each link of the chain is stamped for ADR compliance. I may just use the chain for the inspection and then someting half the size. You could pull a tractor with the size of the chain.

Spent the day cutting the aluminium sheets to size. Had some cut but not all by the supplier. Then shortened the frame by 20mm to match the change in size of the aluminium.

Doesn't look like much achieved today but the welds are good, frame is accurate and square and aluminium matches perfectly. Front hitch is half welded in place and is centered. The 6mm plate is actually recessed into the frame so that I can weld either side and to ensure it doesn't move. I should hopefully finish off the rest of the frame tomorrow so that next weekend I can grab some springs and wheels and get an axle measured up.

The flex in the frame has reduced to an acceptable limit and will reduce even further when the final cross braces are welded on. Will also need to work on the bracing at the front of the box on both sides. Really happy with the bends and welds on them so far.

The front of the box will sit about 18mm in front of the bend. The checker plate has just been slid back.

I should have also noted what things are weighing in at. The frame as it sits in the top pic with two cross sections, as well as the aluminium checkerplate front and sides weighs in at a whoping 73kg. I expect with all further bracing and the rest of the hitch that it will weigh in at 100kg. That will leave the springs, wheels, axle, rear door and top checker plate opening and mudflaps. All the rest will probably bring it up to 200kg as expected.
