They get a slight squeak up, hardly audible in the car though. Who knows if it'll actually make a difference to how long they last.

To be honest I didn't ever grease mine......it was only when I started taking it to Shents for servicing that they started getting greased.
I have noticed the annoying squeak has now gone (it was only really noticeable when driving with the window open). Instead I now just get greasy hands when I forget the damn things have been greased and get hold of them without wearing gloves or previously mentioned plastic bag.
