FWIW, mine does 10.8 around Sydney, and yes I have a bit of a heavy right foot. Once I get it on the highway it will drop to 8.5 and towing a trailer (<1000kg) at the speed limit I don't see any worse than 10l/100.
Diesel is a good price at the moment, but it won't stay that price. It will soon cost over $100 to fill up again.

Through in a major repair and any savings go out the window real quick.
I'm not saying don't buy one, just make sure you do it with both eyes open.
Do some research of potential problems before you buy one.
