Ok, so, the XJ went into Jeep 6 weeks ago, tomorrow.
Diagnosed with faulty remote keyless entry receiver.
Part was ordered by Jeep, 3 to 4 weeks wait.
Followed up once the time was up.
They said, sorry , its on back order. In by 12th March.
Rang yesterday and got answering machine, left message.
Rang back today, will check with parts and ring you back.

Rings back, bad news ,they don't make the part anymore. You will have to try to get it from an aftermarket manufactor.

Very helpful, said email Jeep parts in the states and ask if they know any one that makes them.Google for address.
So, the way I see it is,
*find out if can change PCM and receiver, for one off a same year XJ.
*find out if an American PCM will work, as no immobilzer.Only Au and UK had them, may work if American didnt have transponder in key instead.
*see if receiver could be fixed.

I'd search NAXJA and see if they can help. Those dudes are pretty knowledgeable...

I think the overseas ECU has been tried in the past in regards to the immobilizer issue and I can't recall it being "the fix"...but there would be info on this available. The fact that they no longer are able to deliver the OEM parts doesn't make things easier or more reassuring for the future..

Found this, which is hopeful,
http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1099962
So Im thinking after 97 PCM, would probably have transponder in the key, so a Skim unit.
So as long as immobilzer doesnt talk to the new PCM, it should be sweet

Bear in mind that 97 in the US is post update, almost all of the 97s we got here are pre-updates - largely 96 models.

Yes, came acros that thread a while ago. It starts off promising, and then, like many other threads on this subject, ends in nothing.. nil closure,.once more.
Still maintains the saga that there is no fix available for this...
