Fitted the re-calibrated TCM today, what a real Pr!# to get to. It was up under the drivers side dash to the left behind the aircon ducts just below the radio.
Cleared the fault codes (20 of them) reconnected the abs sensor & went for a drive.
The Good
No more limp mode! Cruse control works again & speedo is spot on.
The undecided
Being this TCM was programed & set up in a 1000HP SRT8 there is a few things I will have to get used to. If I hold the accelerator flat it won't change up gears - hits red line & no up shift. If I'm gentle on the throttle it up shifts at about 3000rpm. I am hoping the adaptive learning nature of the TCM/Nag1 will settle in to my driving style.
I can now select gear ratios all the way up to 5th manually! I have to remember to down shift now if in manual mode. First time I have ever seen 5th illuminated on the dash.
The bad
The only negative will be if I have to send it back to get the shift % changed.
All up its nice to have no dash lights.
So if your thinking about doing a ratio change in a CRD WH/XH you won't get much change from $4k.
Is it worth it? Well I don't know yet, I will need to do some towing to find out.
Would I do it again?
Yes! I'm a sucker for punishment. I love working on my beast, it's therapeutic.
I would like to thank
Valpacer for all the advice. This guy has a world of knowledge about the WH & has been nothing but helpful. Thank's Dave
Mike at OST in the USA. He was willing to have a go when so many here in Oz weren't . He tested the TCM in his own Grand before he was happy to send it to me. In the end he saved me at least $500au over the only other available option I could find. When the funds permit I may send my original TCM to him for ratio & tyre size reprograming only.
To everyone who gave me links & phone numbers of people to try thankyou, the Jeep community is genuinely one of a kind
