I've owned my xj for 18 years and only once had an over heat problem, the clutch fan died.
It presently has twin electric fans and an adjustable thermostat

And no matter the heat or how it's being used never goes more than a tick Over the mid point on the gauge, then the fans cut in and immediately pull the temp down to just below the mid point.

I've towed a 23 foot boat in Queensland summers and never had issues.

That said I've replaced radiators water pumps t- stats ect as needed

I don't have bonnet vent I don't have the back of the bonnet jacked

BUT I also don't have a/c grrrrr got to fix that

Stock as a rock body work

I understand that some have issues with cooling , I'm just saying it's not all

Oh by the way 420000 km and going strong

stock is the key word here

my current project could be flogged harder than a commodore driven by a p plater, till i lifted it and fitted larger tyres...

seems to bring out any cooling issues ive found(seen)

lets hope its easy to get to
that coolant gauge sender is a bit of a mongrel to get out & in (on a '96)

Do NOT use a long socket, as this can VERY easily crack the ceramic connector, instead you need an open-end, BUT wont fit, so modified a cheap one to bent stubby. A cracked sender can be re-glued, a new one is $36 on ebay.

If you want to know EXACTLY whats going on with your coolant temp, invest $17 in a digital gauge, sender screws straight into Jeep hole, you can tee them together for about extra $10 if you wish, and this will verify your stock gauge.

One other thing I have found out using this setup, is the idle settles to near perfection at exactly 91C...coincidence or factory ECU design?

Stock as a rock body work ......but

2,5 inches lift 31 inch tyres, extractors and 2.5 inch system

AND the biggy in my mind is gears, I have 4.10 gears which means that the vehicle runs easier than stock.

To many people want to jack it in the air run 33 inch tyres with stock ( 3.55 ) gears and then wonder why they over heat
