That sure is hidden Adrian!! I just got back from 10 days away ,mostly in the bush in the Victorian High Country with no phone or internet , so I was keen to get back on line and see your progress! So the finished job looks pretty good in the pics, and the weight result is amazing...only 21kg over standard! I will not have a hope of matching that since my winch is 22kg bare(i think thats what I weighed it at). When will you test it out? As for the MIG ,i have only ever used argon, but i think i read somewhere that co2 can cause more splatter than argon based shield gas.
Running the earth directly to the neg terminal on the battery is the best way, as you have done.

I envy you guys with your weather, wish it was so nice here year round.

Thanks for the kind words.

You'd still be under 30kg easily. 5.5kg extra on the winch, 1kg less for the solenoid box.

As it turns out, my MIG's "Gas type adjuster" is connected on the motor power wire. Some versions had the wire speed symbol there, some had the gas type symbol (wire speed can increase as argon content increases).

I'll get the wife to sit in the MX5 and hold the brakes while I winch it towards me
