I don’t think anyone is saying that EVs should be taking over straight away. Hybrid is definitely the next step. Not only that but we have to start somewhere.

The transition to hybrid and then full EV is inevitable

Yes, battery weighs circa 500kg. But, engine only weighs circa 50kg.

A Hemi weighs circa 300kg, and 125L fuel tank 125kg + probably 40kg for tank itself.

So you’re looking at 550kg for an EV Vs 465kg for a combustion. Not a big weight difference.

Yes, battery replacement (for now) is most expensive part. And pretty outrageous cost I’ll agree. But electric motors don’t cost anything much to service and there is no reason right now why a decent quality electric motor by itself should cost anymore than $1,000.

I don’t like changing from diesel to ulp and soon to ev. But when it does happen, and we will be forced to accept it by our illustrious Government, I’m sure there will be upsides apart from having a shit tonne of torque from zero rpm !

I'm not wanting to hijack the op's thread so I'll try to keep this short.

We are being sold this enviable hybrid/ev future under the pretence of saving the the planet, reducing greenhouse yadada. Reality is it only serves to fill the car companies and many others pockets and the outcome for emissions will most likely treble.

Our journey doesn't match the destination, those with the most say have got us in a u turn accelerating towards a cliff.

For the op because you are fitting off road accessories and do a bit of camping the trail hawk needs a close look. It's not only the air suspension but the transfer case too. Once you've owned a quadra lift vehicle you'll never want to buy another without it. That's the major reason for me not updating to an srt yet........can I live without quadra lift........I'm not sure

You can't purchase an electric motor for $1000 that has the duty cycle @ required output as light as necessary to offset the over weight battery required to keep said conveyance in motion imo.

But you are correct, that is what it should cost

Just out of interest, what makes you think EVs will treble emissions overall?

Hi
I have the GC MY18 Limited 3.6ltr petrol, after a bit of research I decided on the Chief products - Nudge Bar, Safari Rock Rails and rear bumper guard with the corner protection plates. I'm getting them installed next week so will let you know how it goes, the nudge bar does not affect the front sensors and the rails fit without any drilling, the forums in USA speak quite highly of the products, Coming up in July they have a new off road front bumper which is really smart looking and innovative. I also installed the Eibach lowering springs which evens out the car, I like the WK2 model consequently why I am spending my spare money, all the best in your next jeep journey.
