Default Thoughts on Poor Economy

I'm buggered if I know about this "distance per tank", what a strange way of measuring fuel consumption!!!, What do you have to do?.....run right out?. The ONLY way to do it is by distance travelled/fuel used. The Jeep 4 litre HO donk in a Cherokee will give 15L/100 k's (18.5 mpg) around town and 12L/100 k's (23.5 mpg) on a trip consistantly if its kept in tune. Dont waste money buying Optimax thinking you will get better mileage, you may do but it will be bugger all and I'll challange anyone to prove otherwise. Use a premium octane fuel, keep the revs below 3k and keep it tuned.

Sure that's what I did... to work out the actual capacity of my tank seeing as so many people on this board seem to have a 2litre coke bottle as a fuel tank ;) Seems the post is gone or maybe it was on the old board but something like 81 litres rings a bell.

Oh yeah by the way my economy with 4.56/33 is heaps worse than when on 3.07/33 - now I drive a drag car! :D

A few of the XJ's ( including mine ) that I look after all dropped 2-3l/100kms in the same month and stayed that way for the next few too. We all fill up at Safeway's so I suspected the fuel too. One guy tried Shell and got better but I tried PULP at Safeway ( I use the 4 cents a litre off dockets ) and I have got 2-3l/100kms better ever since and others that have changed to it got the same results. These have all been measured by fuel computers and have always got mileage with less than 1l/100km difference!
It has also been shown by the RACV that a lot of Ethanol has been added to the fuel mix which drops your economy as well as doing engine damage above 10% concentration. I have calculated that even with 1l/100km improvement I will break even on the price difference and every 1l/100km after that I save just over $5 per tank.

to mattc of course your car is a drag car with 4.56 ratios. i drove a tj with 32 with 3.07 and my god it was a bucket of shit - i run 30's on the standard 3.07 ratio's and it hammers compared to that shitbox - my god i was in 3rd dropped it back to 2nd and the revs barely moved - i got mates with old diesel 3.2L 4cyclinder FJ's with 33's that go better than jeeps without the ratio's done and big tyres

Well after filling up with Shell PULP I've gotten 209 Clicks out of the first 1/2 tank. And the first half always seems to go faster than the second. Before on the last 3 tanks of BP ULP I was sitting at around the 170 mark out of the first half of tank. So is it crap fuel?
