Ok met with Woody313 again today, had a nice talk and he said it wasnt pinging when i reved it and ingear reving but he said put some good branded fuel in and it should be good. SOO on the way home i put some V-power which ive only heard good things about and its gone. not all of it but its down to a very quiet exhaust sound now. So it was pinging, not the lifters soo all good.

cheers for the help from everyone.

Thanks also from me for the advice about pinging. Was definately the problem as there was no noise today after filling the tank with PULP.

willow, try Penrite HPR30 next oil change, I have had excellent results in engines that had bad lifter tap.
Hope its not your bearings..

That was my first thourghts but hasen't got any worse in 1.5 years. There is no noise at all when you first start it up from cold, then 5-6 sec the tapping starts? Thanks for that I'll try the HPR30 for sure.
