and 1/4" thick isnt that strong for FG, 10mm is though, the shape of it gives it it's strength. The most concerning part would be for those constant knocks and scrapes on the lower bottom edge.
I think you are absolutely right, Too risky here in OZ. Though they do look cool

Heres a decent link for the bars JB pointed out. These look the best so far made out of steel, very sturdy looking construction ect. The last 3 pages show the best pics.

$1300 USD though and they are stell so shipping to Oz would prob put one of these bars at close to 2k. Prefer to cut up the plastic one and even make a custom centre section to house a winch behind the plastic.

Its good enough for me Im after looks and practicality, I think Its the best replacement to the standard bar I dont need steel, the original bar has held up for the last 5 years.

i do work designing things for mine sites that use use plastics rubbers and fibres although im no expert (our clients are) on how these things work. i do know for wear applications ie sliding over rocks a lot of rubber and plastic are far better (like 15X times wear capability of steel) and some fibres offer more strength then steel. and are lighter and offer return flex and not denting. Im not saying if these products are good either way as I have no idea of the materials they use. but the idea is great. check out mallcrawlin.com some members on there have these.
