Default Vic high country.

G'day,

Here are some pics (first pics of my KJ on Ausjeep!).
Went with the missus and two mates in the back. Crossed the Howqua, went up 16mile Jeep track to Bluff Hut, then across to King Billy where we set up camp in the saddle below the No1 peak.
The CRD KJ is awesome! (apart from being way too low - mine is unlifted as yet). The eng, trans and case bash plates copped a hiding (the eng one has to come off to get smashed back into shape) All the other cars up there were lifted and with muddies - but we went up OK in a stocker (apart from tyres and bashplates). Just had to go real slow and scratch the tummy every few metres.

Then it got real cold and snowed about 4-6". made for some awesome fun driving . Was hairy going down the steep, narrow, icy sections - couldn't see the big rocks coz of the snow drift and slipped, smacked, spun my way down. Lots of the icy slips sideways into ruts (and nearly off the track!!) I nearly packed my daks when the tail end was sliding round to the front on one steep icy bit. Too much fun to be legal!

In the end - the KJs maiden voyage was AWESOME! Even better - coz the missus was along, i have now gotten approval to get a lift, chains, muddies and a snorkel!! WAAHOO!!

Eric.

Cool pics & quite a trip for its maiden voyage, just watch out on those snow chains (do they go on the front tyres) as there is not much room between the upper ball joint & the tyre.

Thanks fellas - i had an awesome time!
My bashplates also had an good time - i hope i can remove the front one easily coz it's bashed real good.
I was really impressed by the transmission skid too - it held up really well and i'm sure i woulda knocked the oil filter off otherwise.

What my KJ desperately needs is a lift - i'm planning on getting one in the next two weeks, but am worried that the standard 2" may not be enough. This is the first time that i've offroaded an IFS and noticed that you lose heaps of clearance purely from the front suspension compressing. And since the lowest part of the car is pretty much under the heavy CRD donk... The GQs SFA in comparison - I always had the frt diff as the lowest point and the clearance doesn't really vary that much. (i'm not intending to start a SFA debate here coz the KJ is a different beast altogether to the GQ... )

Gunna head back up there in a month or so - this time armed with a lift!

Eric.
