mate dealers are franchised. it means they can only do things to your vehicle that are recommended by chrysler corp, any recalls or tsb's that are issued by chrysler corp, servicing or repairs that are recommended by chrysler corp. they can only work on standard parts and accessories sold by chrysler corp. chrysler have issued a tsb for the slow filling fix and if the dealer has done this, whether it wrks or not that is where it ends for the dealer. he cannot have any part of any aftermarket solutions, which are not recommended by chrysler. if you want to hassle someone you will have to hassle chrysler, in an attempt to get them to issue the dealer with another solution. and mate you have no hope of getting anywhere there, believe me. chrysler have issued the valve blowing tsb and that's where it ends as far as they are concerned.

Where can I find TSB details? My vehicle suffers from this issue chronically, and I just take it back every time it happens. The breather tube is always full of fuel, but they always "grease the ball valve". I'd like to understand what Chrysler believe is the problem.

mate the problem is actually the entire filler tube, it needs to be totally re-designed for a diesel vehicle. the wrangler is basically designed as a petrol vehicle. when they brought out the diesel they pretty much build the petrol version and then just dump a diesel engine in it instead of the petrol. his means it cops a filler system which is suited to petrol not diesel. so some vehicles have problems others don't. if yours does and the tsb for the valve doesn't work you're stuck with it, end of story. this thread has been going endlessly with afflicted purchasers asking the same questions you are. apart from the valve fix, neither chrysler nor the dealers are going to do ANYTHING to help or fix the problem . that's why this thread has publised the stevil fix as one alternative, not perfect but better than you have. other alternative is a long range tank. but that's it mate. you are on your own, neither chrysler nor the dealers will give you ANY further help. you just have to accept it. it's just another jeep thing.

as for what chrysler tell you the problem is, they tell you it is a sticking valve at the base of the breather hose, which seals off the breather in the event of a rollover accident. they tell you it sticks shut for some reason and has to be freed up and opened to solve the problem. it is an integral part of the tank and can't be replace without replacing the tank. replacing the tank just gives you another tank with another faulty valve. you just have to live with it mate. read this thread right from the start, understand that chrysler have stuck you with this problem to sort out for yourself and live with it. hard to believe but true none the less.

Thanks for your advice, but I will continue to pursue Chrysler for a proper fix. The real problem seems to be the sticking rollover valve. When this sticks, two other design flaws are revealed.

1. A sticking rollover valve allows fuel to get into the breather tube. It does not drain back into the tank. This restricts future fuel flow by blocking the breather tube.
2. The inlet pipe is too small. If it were larger, it would provide a path for escaping air.

I am reluctant to modify my vehicle as it may affect warranty, and I cannot accept the "it's a Jeep thing" mentality. It only happens when I go off-road, i.e when there's lots of fuel slosh.

I'd still appreciate details of the valve TSB if anyone has them. I will be pressing Chrysler for a non-sticking valve.

ask your chrysler dealer for the details. they can certainly supply them and after you contact chrysler they will refer you back to the dealer to have the tsb carried out again. then you can just keep going round and round in circles till you give up. good luck.
