The dreams started while doped up in hospital then got much stronger after being home for a couple of days, haven't told anyone till now as I didn't know what to make of them.

Yep that's them!
Once you are completely off them you will start dreaming that you have taken up smoking again. Once I dreamt that I had and I woke up actually crying because it was so real I thought I had wasted all the hard work I'd put in to give them up.

Try a product called Restivit, it's over the counter from a chemist. I use these and they help me. After living for 20+ years on warships I struggle to sleep when I'm home because it is far too quiet. I've been out now for 5 years and I'm slowly getting better. The past 2 nights I've slept right through the night and I can't remember the last time I've ever done that.

Got my Snowwolf 90W today, works heaps better than the Chinese knockoff Istick. Got rebuildable tank now, though I think I am happy to stick with the prebuild coil heads for convience.

Restivit is a great product.
Not only for sleep. Its one of the old antihistamines used for treating allergies.
Its one of the active ingredients in Mersndol, the stuff used to treat back pain etc.
If you need a muscle relaxant, 1/4 of a tab does the trick.
get a bee sting & and are allergic, it will fix it.
If I take a whole tab its like downing a six pack quickly.

Been on nicotine patches this week (16hr 25mg) slight reduction in needing a smoke though I hoped for better. I don't think the doctors restrictions on things I can do are helping much as I have a lot of free time just sitting on my backside reading.
I was doing some gardening & that seemed to settle the craving down a lot but on Monday the GP said that's not on either. Got a bit shitty with him for a while & went to the supermarket & bought a pack of smokes & cooled down. I take the patch off about 10pm & have no dreams at night, sleeping for about 5hrs.
Had an afternoon nap 2 days this week & had wild dreams both days, next time I'll take the patch off before nap & see what happens. 3 weeks till I can go back to work at this stage, not supposed to lift more than 5 kilo's till then, but I reckon once I can get busy again I'll have a better chance with the patches.

Sounds like a Vape oe e-cig could help, considering your spending so much time twiddling your thumbs, I can image how frustrating it would be.
