That's what I reckon too. Only thing is, I hate assuming new parts are faulty. I keep wondering if there's something I've missed, something causing a speed mis-match between front and rear and the VC is actually doing it's job.
The transfer case doesn't run very hot, about 40c which is near enough to being the same as the NP208 in my J20. If there was a speed mismatch I'd expect the temperature to keep building.

I've just been busy with the torque wrench, checking VC slip.
I'm a bit concerned though that I'm hijacking USA242's thread. What's the etiquette here? Should I start a new thread based on my VC grief. I originally only posted as a contribution to his problem but I must confess that I'd like to pursue my problem a bit.
I'd also like to know if he's decided on the TC swap. That's one of my three options as I see it.

Don't be concerened about highjaking this thread, The info is more than relevent to my situation and its a lot easier to look in one area to find answers.
I have yet to start fixing my TC yet and as I have a 42 GPW to go 4wheel driving in I am not in a hurry to start.
But I think I will replace the TC with a 2wd option keepin to the K.I.S.S policy.

Hi. I’m a first time contributor.

This site below recommends putting some Limited Slip Additive (friction modifier) in the TC to help stop the VC / progressive coupler binding.

http://www.mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21646

I haven’t tried it but would be interested to hear if anyone else has had success with this. I have an 04 overland v8 and would also like to modify my VC to permanently slip so vehicle becomes 2wd in high with option of 4L lock. This could help save fuel and front drive train wear and would make the car more fun to drive.
Do you think adding excessive LSD additive to the TC would work? If so how much? Has anyone tried this?

The ZJ has totally different VC which is fully sealed so fluid in t/case makes no difference.
WJ/Gs use vari-lok VC which are affected by oil in t/case but I wouldnt add FM unless you are experiencing binding problems.
The standard operation sends torque to front wheels only when rear wheels slip which means doing as you suggested would not improve economy but would hinder offroad high range performance. The main source of economy losses is wheels driving front diff ,so what you need is manual front hub locks.Trouble is ABS is on the diff axle CV joints so disengaging hubs would render it inoperative & trigger check engine light.
