i think its the factor of the weight of the 2 door and the stiff sidewalls not allowing the tyre to spread out at lower psi combined with the agressive tread.
This is my experience too - I was driving on the beach up in Forster recently and the little 2-dr on MTZs was struggling quite a bit in the loose sand, really had to keep the momentum going or I would've been rooted. I must admit I didn't deflate my tyres, but compared to similar driving in an old Mitsubishi Challenger on HT tyres (also fully inflated) I was really surprised at how hard the JK found it.

agree completely. My old TJ was much better in the sand than my JKU rubi as can never seem to find the right gear to suit

you turn your ESP off if in high range?

If on sand why wait until its too late to deflate your tyres?

As soon as we hit a beach or sand areas down go the tyres and most of our club has muddies of varying sizes and brands and all perform well

I wasn't saying it was completely useless in sand, its just hard work with MT tyres, and as over the last 2 years that i have owned my Rubi most of the wheeling i have done has been on sand, with the occasional rock and mud im changing to an AT tyre, as i think its better suited to WA's terrain, as a by product of this i think it will also be nicer to drive on the road. am tending towards the mickey t atz 4 rib in a 12.5 wide size, this will however require new rims and flares... so i doubt there will be much change out of $5k

this is because the 4.1 t case is totally retarded unless you live in moab or drive the rubicon trail .
it is just too deep for normal wheeling and the v6 doesnt have the grunt to pull hi range .

swap it your t case to someone that thinks they are a rock crawler and
run a nvg231 that runs a more modest 2.72:1 that is better suited to
sand and normal wheeling .

yes, the rubi transfer case makes the most sense when you are doing shenanigans on rock tracks and most noticeably with a manual transmission.

everywhere else it will most likely annoy you and anyone trying to follow you. including pedestrians.
