Sorry to take the tread off topic, but can you explain this a bit?
My concern (with any car.) is that when the axle/diff is cooled down quickly by the water, a negative pressure is created, and if the breather is blocked, water can be drawn in past seals.
If water can't get in through the breather while the diffs are working, wouldn't that mean there'd be a negative pressure on the seals as everything cools?
I try to lurch into the water real slowly to let everything cool and equalise a bit before the breather is submerged (possibly, I never thought about the air pocket - that's a good point!).
