Agree, fixing the glow plugs was a total crock in relation to the power issue. Yes sure they needed doing but to expect it related to the power issue is rubbish. I have seen a post on here about someone getting the dealer to do the swirl motor and it was a 4 figure sum. Really you can do the bypass yourself with advice from here. I'll get one of the WH guys to chime in in cas the plug is different to the WG and many of us WG owners have hard wired it in. In reality you can get the resistor and push it into the female plug terminals and then tape it nicely to seal it and to retain the resistor. You really don't need an auto leccy but if he charged you more than $20 he'd be ripping you. I'm assuming the plug is not that hard to get at so I'll let a WH pilot to again chime in here.

The swirl motors overseas are not that expensive but they will be through Jeep and then the labour will be big cause from memory they might have teo remove the turbo to get full access to the swirl motor, but again ask the WH guys, either way guarantee it will be expensive through Jeep unless you have a really sympathetic dealer.

After finally getting the car into the local dealer,
Enough said.

Don't be too upset, most of us have been to 'dealers' as well. Only to have similar stories to relate. She's a good bus and will serve you well if you heed the sage wisdom of the folks here.

Not that I'm a mechanic either (my father was) but I try always do the simple (read: cheap) things first. Be strong.

5 out of 6 glow plus were faulty as well as the glow plug control module in my WH & it didn't bring the engine light on.
A suspect 02 sensor so far is the only cause of the check engine light I have had so far.

Get the 4.7k resister, unplug the swirl motor, put the resistor across the centre 2 pins and see if it is back to normal, this will tell you if it is/isn't the swirl motor.
It really is simple.

Then you can decide if you want the stealership to do the repair.

sounds like u have a leak somewhere in the system, You could do boost leak test. http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/m...-DIY-check.htm different engine but the princables carry over

You might also have a build up of soot/carbon on the turbo vanes and actuator, theres no point forking out cash for a new swirl motor before you check all the easy cheap fixes. Agree with every1 else on the glow plugs, only used on start up to pre heat the diesel before being injected. You can throw a match on "coldish" diesel and it won't burn. you got scammed into that one.

From what I've read in the service manual, the glow plugs are on all the time, even after start up, just at a lower temperature (and voltage ).

I think you will find with newer engines the glow plugs might stay on till the engine reachs running temp. They are only used to warm the combustion chambers to aid combustion when the engine is cold. They do not ignite the fuel like spark plugs.
