Anyway, I am thinking I might change the oil again at 30k, and again between services, even if I don't bother with the filter.
I am not sure if I will be keeping this vehicle beyond it's warranty, but if I do I will know it's been better looked after than the minimum requirement.
There are a lot of factors to concider when making that decision, mainly the type of driving conditions, towing, dusty etc.
75% of my driving is towing and a lot of that is in extreme conditions. I do it every 10,000, but the oil analysis show that I could go a lot further. If I was unable to change at 10,000 for any reason I would be very comfortable going to 15,000.
Modern synthetic oils are very capable of going to the 20,000 and beyond. Some manufacturers are now recommending 25,000 or 12 month changes. I know Landrover and Merc.both do.
In my opinion doing it at less than 10,000 or every 6 months is a waste of money and the worlds resources.

As you said mate, your opinion. As soon as we drive any car, let alone hulking SUV's, we've already put the environment and resources in second place to our needs or indulgences...

When I bought my 'new' Jeep I asked the dealer how they could extend the service interval to 20k and he said they had improved the filters which sounded like bs to me. More likely they are saving costs on their fixed price servicing, which may be 'fixed' but too high imo. $665 for the first service and it's basically an oil change! The next one is over $1000 and I get a new fuel filter as well!

Wasn't having a go at you or anyone else, we all need to do whatever helps us sleep at night.
