is there any tips on saving fuel ? other than change car .

intake ? muffler ? wheels ?
I own a kj 3.7 v6 , it is the exact same mold of the 4.7 v8 except two less cyls , it needs to rev a little harder as its big brother , NOTE , on the air con please make sure that the air is off when not needed , (middle dial) I use a gas called minus 30 , a lot less stress on the engine and compressor , which means less fuel , do you drive local ? or highway ? if highway check diffs ratios , change higher gears if need be but dear way to do , tyres ? make sure correct pressure , and of course if used as cruiser , place highway tyres on at correct size for car . make sure wheels are balanced and aligned
one can also ask ? how are your driving habits ? calm chuck ? or james bond style ?

When I purchased my first CJ5 Renegade it had free-wheeling "Selectro" hubs which I only ever engaged when going into 4WD. I am sure I could get better economy on the road if I could somehow get free-wheeling hubs to fit the KJ, but looking at the size of the bearing/hub splines I doubt it. The CJ5 always returned 22mpg with a 232ci whereas the similar V6 only works out at 16.8mpg by my reckoning.

I've got a 3.7l kj and it's doing similar figures to you. The console on the roof shows 16.6mpg on country roads going easy...so about 17l per 100km.
Just did heads and had all the valves reseated and it has added a bit of power but hasn't improved the fuel economy.
Stevo, can you give us an idea on how much improvement you could expect ...and how do you remap exhaust and decat?

I've been wondering if some new injectors and replacing the oxygen sensors could help? Tried getting some new coil packs as it is running a little rough on idle and that proved an epic fail because I found the cheapest set I could get from the US online and they basically didn't work at all - thankfully they refunded my money.

Im getting 14.5L/100km in my KJ Renegade Petrol. I drove it from Brisbane to Cooktown 2 months ago and got around 600kms per tank on the open road. Around town, it uses ALOT more fuel and if doing any sort of offroading it drinks fuel like a thirsty alcoholic. I always pack an extra jerry can of fuel when going bush because I don't trust it. The fuel economy is my least favourite thing about this car.

I have tracked each and every tank put through my CRD since I picked it up new from the dealer in August 2007 and it has improved from the original 12l/100kms city, 10l/
100kms highway - to 10.5km/100l around my small town to as good as 6.5km/100l on the open road when not towing. When towing my high profile camper i get about 12s. Most of the improvement is in the GDE ECO Full-Torque tune, the GDE Transmission tune (TCM), and driving with one eye on the EGT guage (the best gauge investment you can make). If you always drive to minimise EGT, your fuel economy is maximised, heat is minimised, and your engine should last longer than normal due to less heat stress on electronic sensors, turbo bearings, etc. Just my 2 cents on the subject.

For comparison, I'm just back from Melbourne-Cape York return towing a low profile (Kimberley) camper. 8588 km, 1140 L diesel av 13.3 l/100km
Open hwy at 100-110 km/h figures were around 12.5 av, in the rough stuff 14-15 typically.
Confirms the value of the GDE tunes....
