@Dom:

IMO the headlight loom is to protect the headlights from overheating and burn. In this case which the headlights are under-powered, maybe a second battery is the way to go. I think I will put one on once I managed to find a spot for it under the bonnet, but most likely in the rear after I took those interiors off.

@KKnut:

Maybe I under-estimated NRMA batteries. Mine battery is actually rated as 850CCA.

Your correct with what you have said but if you have a bigger better quality loom the light swill be able to draw a better load which may stop the dimming. A Second battery will definitely fix the issue though. Did you source the winch locally? I have been looking at the same but in the 10s or the 9.5ctis. There not cheap!!!

That's huge! I'm hoping to get one around the low 800 to high 700cca, sounds like a dual battery is obviously a must. I believe a wiring loom directly off the battery is always better than factory to reduce voltage drop. So you pulled out the rear interior, what are your thoughts there?

If you want to avoid a second battery have a look at a "Braille B7548" its a AGM & start battery in one 945 CCA

http://www.batterybusiness.com.au/st...ct_detail/7213

I have been using one for almost a year and couldn't be happier.
Speak to Peter at Battery Business he knows his stuff

I think that may be the difference between the crd and petrol. Mine is stock on the crd and I think it is 800cca off the top of my head. I'd still like a second one though.

Yeah the loom might help in that way. I purchased this winch via eBay, shipped from US to here. I believe it's still a lot cheaper than purchasing one here, (includes shipping of course.) I went to the Autobarn one day and saw the price tag on one Warn Tabor winch, which is just an entry-level piece, the price had already thrown me away.

850CCA also surprised me quite a bit. Maybe it's for a diesel?

Well, that's definitely tons of space down there. But if I put a batt there, I'd take off all plastic stuff and put a metal frame in first, thus I could hold anything I put there still. I would prefer to do it after the KK has a rear bar that carries spare tyres and jerry cans.

Another thing is that the cables of the winch is limited in length. Run them to the back of the car will need some cable extension. Not like the wires for horns or fog lamps, those are like finger-sized cables. I prefer not to take any risk on that.
