Question, what tyre pressures were you told to run, I was told 40psi all round. what are you running? Also..I put a 697 onto a 18" lorado mag for the spare.. makes the floor sit up and can't close the catch, thought I had read somewhere on the site that it did fit in the well..any tricks to getting this to close?
cheers
Let the tyre down a bit and carry a small compressor.

On this trip, loaded for bear, I have been running 38 front, 45 rear on bitumen. I am towing around 1700 kg with a ball weight around 160 kg plus loaded up in the back.

On the dirt sections of the Savannah Way, Gibb River Road and Tanami I dropped the pressures 5 to 10 psi according to surface and speed.

Around town, unloaded, I run 34 front and 38 rear.

Cheers

PS we arrived back home today. Around 16,000 kms driven on the trip.

Weelllll, having sung the praises of the D697s - chosen specifically as the only LT AT in the stock size for the tougher sidewalls - today on Skytrek at Willow Springs near Wilpena Pound I opened up the sidewall of the tyre from rim to tread . Lots of shale and slate, as the Flinders are. I was forced to travel about 300m up the slope still in low range before I could find somewhere safe enough to stop and change the tyre. First ever sidewall cut. Was running 32psi so that the TPMS system would behave, just as well I did as the track was so rough there was no way I would have felt a flat tyre until grip really mattered.

I will give the WK2 credit though, it pulled me up the very slippery slope (due to the loose rocks) as if there was nothing wrong.

N tyre is indestructible - even solid rubber! Hit something sharp enough, hard enough, and you will put a hole in it.

Cheers
