Ok, early on I'd read they were using the territory independent suspension on the rear, but now having a look at more recent articles they are suggesting solid rear axle, and coils to replace the leaf springs.

Yep the Everest is just a wagon version of the Ranger with same underpinnings just like the the Challenger/Triton, Colarado 7/Colarado, Mu-X/D Max, and even the old Forerunner(Hilux Surf)/Hilux twins. There is also currently the Toyota Fortuna or SW4 based on the current Gen Hilux along the same lines as those above, though only in overseas markets. Read somewher that it might be here in 2015 though.

Understood, but early on the rumors were all round independent suspension, which would have given it better on road handling. But I guess if you want off road capability and better towing stability, then the solid rear is a good thing. Suspension travel is one area the Grand really falls down in.

Yep there will always be a compromise one way or another.

The Everest should be a pretty good competition for all the prados out there. The rangers ifs is one of the best at the moment and with a solid axle rear end it should be a pretty capable off-roader.

Hi Scarps

As some one earlier said it's what car is least compromised, which was the decision I made when I sold my WG recently and settled on a MY14 Discovery TDV6. As it's the less of the 2 Discovery diesels, it's not as powerful as the GC, but heaps better than either the Pajero or Prado diesels and in my opinion better off road than any of them especially with the active rear diff.

But it does cost more than all of them except the 200 LC, but the thing is, as it will spread a greater % of its time on road, it is sublime to drive. I drove all of the current models, Pajero, Prado, GC and the Ranger and nothing comes close to it....but again, it is dearer than all of them, but for a car that does everything so very well & tows 3500kg, it is incredible.

I wish you well with your future choice, just don't get the FJ cruiser, I think in the long run you might regret it.
