I drove Melbourne to Hervey Bay on mine. Filled up at Kalkallo and drove Hume to Albury, then to Wagga Wagga and then up the Newell from Wyalong and via Dalby/Kingaroy to Hervey Bay.

Not driving for economy, either...

Cheers

It was always great to see the look on the Bruiser owners when I told them I could go almost 1000kms between fills towing 3.5T of van. It always shut them up real quick between their piddly little tank and fuel consumption 60% higher than mine .

We did the Gibb River Rd, including side trips to Mitchell Falls, Bell Gorge, Manning Gorge, Windjana Gorge. Topped up once "just in case" at $2.40/l! Did the Cape from Weipa to the Tip and back to Coen too. I love the freedom it gives in the Outback.

Question WK2 Aux Fuel Tank with HR Towbar

Does anyone know if there is an auxiliary / long range fuel tank for the Jeep Grand Cherokee WK diesel that can be fitted with a Hayman Reese towbar. I've checked the usual places but they all only seem to have the tank that fits with the Mopar towbar. Any suggestions?

No, GOF. Chuck out your HR tow bar I'm afraid. It'll be worth it though, especially if you tow in remote areas.

Yep, as Bomber said. I had an HR bar fitted when I picked up mine. The LRA tank hadn't been created at that stage and when it was released I paid them a visit at their factory (I live 10 mins away) and they took one look underneath at the HR bar and it goes right through the middle of where the tank fits. If you want an aux tank, you need the Mopar bar.

Thanks Bomber and Matty4. I have a Mopar tow bar available so I guess I'll have swap to that if I want the extra tank.
Have recently completed the big loop towing 2.7T. 14 months of bliss. 2 flat tyres, 1 per vehicle, were the only problems. The jeep ran like a dream.
Have upgraded to a bigger van, 3.4T, and planning to head off again shortly. Still trying to decide if the tank is worth the cost as I already carry 3 x 20l jerry cans. Strangely, the minister for fun and finance has approved the expenditure but i'm just having trouble convincing myself. Any arm bending suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That extra 75 litres - roughly four jerry cans, carried low down under the car - means you drive past the place with diesel at $2.50 a litre and buy it at $1.50 a litre further on...

Cheers
