With a whole lot of other things going on I have only just received a replacement intake manifold from Jeeepart Recyclers, the UK ended up wanting too much as the part directly from VM came with a lot of parts we did not need ie intake throttle, intake elbow and EGR valve.

Will be calling a Jeep service centre I have user previously to assess the JK then replace the manifold. The large amount of oil getting caught in the catch can only seems to have started since the crack formed so hoping it is all related.

Will update once we find out more.

Took the JK down on Friday, as expected Chrysler were not interested in helping fix the problem. The service centre (SVM Artarmon) have been great and are only going to charge 4 hours to replace the manifold plus $35 for a new gasket.

So we will see how things go, hope to pick it up on Tuesday.

Didn't get it back till Wednesday afternoon and as I expected they found out there is a lot more work involved then they first thought.

All running ok and only did some short runs around town but had a job up at Tuggerah Friday afternoon so it would get a good run.

On return I dropped into a mates place and we checked it over to find oil still coming out around the same place has to be a problem with the EGR valve as when you put your fingers over the back of the EGR and down to the rear bolt it is wet with oil and it is not the breather hole in the EGR as it is always dry.

After checking everything we lost just over a litre of oil in 160kms at highway speed. Also had 55ml in the Provent and it was empty before the run up and back to Tuggerah.

Will be having a chat with the service centre on Monday then will most likely check out getting a new EGR valve.

That's weird. Is it still leaking externally ?? If so it has to be something to do with the rocker cover gasket or even a cracked rocker cover ?? To lose that much oil and not blow any smoke usually means it's leaking external of inlet and outlet gases, including the egr valve

Bummer mate....
I have recently noticed soot around my manifold. I am hoping it is just a gasket that needs replacing and not the whole manifold...
Just curious where did you end up sourcing it from, how much and was the gasket a separate purchase?
Cheers
Matt

Hi gazxr, Yes it still leaking externally and in the same area. There is no way it is coming from the rocker cover as it all starts about 10cm away from the rocker cover. Yes it does not make any sense.

After having a chat with the service centre I might go out and have a talk with a diesel specialist, with no oil galleries in the leaking area it might be as gazxr mentioned a while back a turbo seal.

Matt I think you will be safe it is not a intake manifold as it looks like mine had a crack but was not the problem. I'd check the torque of the manifold bolts first as it is a big job moving all the pipes and tubes to get at things.

The manifold came from Jeeepart Recyclers and was 1K delivered, gasket was from Chrysler $35 and $700 to fit and that included a full engine flush with new coolant even though it had one six months earlier don't ask
