Hold on now her's my 10C worth... We bought our KJ Limited V6 Petrol new in June 02. We traded it on 27th September this year and went up a Grand Cherokee Limited CRD.
The KJ was traded for no other reason that i decided i needed a new car and the Grands were on special for the month of September. Hey the KJ had 62,000 Klms on it and we feel it performed faultlessly. I know i have written this before and prob not the last time. We consider ourselves " seriously keen" 4WDers not "Extreme" and the KJ would take us anywhere we wanted to go in Stock standard configuration. However this Jeep certainly had its limitations as a 4WD, as "all standard" vehicles do. I would buy a KJ again tomorrow, however i would not buy the V6 petrol, i would buy the CRD everytime. If you have any questions you need answering send me a PM and i will give you a phone number so we can chat.
I seriously urge you to consider the Diesel option, we went to Fraser Island on Anzac Day long weekend and one KJ in the group was a CRD and on memory he went 160-170 klms further on the same size tank of Diesel Versus our Petrol. Forget any thing you have heard about " Smelly Rattly Diesels", the Mercedes Benz CRD engines they are putting in Jeeps now are something special.
We are getting around 750Klms for 60-65 litres per tank of Diesel in the Grand.

I test drove a KJ diesel before buying the petrol, but thought the diesel was still a bit "tractorish" (but thats just my opinion). You are right CRD that the Mercede's CRD diesel is fantastic but unfortunately they are only put in the Grand Cherokees, not our little KJ's.

For anyone who is interested, I took the KJ offroad for the first time last Saturday and it superbly handled whatever it was dished out. The only mods it has is a 2"lift, BFG muddies and an ARB bar. The lift is definately worth every cent with the only underbody crunching heard over the harshest terain. I went with a group which included a couple of discovery's and cruisers all with 3"lifts and Jungle Trekers and they were slightly amazed I followed them throughout the day

Next on the list is an ARB air locker for rear and a set of quick disconnects for the front swaybar then "watch out world".

CRD & Walker the pics look so cool. CRD those photos of all the jeeps look cool, I was there with a hired Defender last time.
Hopefully i can go again in the future ahead and give the kj ago.

I think there are good things and bad things between petrol and diesel. Most obvious ones is although u get alot more power in petrol you loose fuel economy and vice versa, having said all that , I would go for the trusty petrol due to the fact that I live near the city and would like a powerful car and sacrifice abit on fuel economy.

For the people that have the KJ limited V6 version. Of the 70 litres how many Kms would you go in a full tank. driving in the city in kms and also if you could give another one on highwaysin km?

But hey the cars look cool, the only thing is which colour haha lol.

I would love to here what economy people are getting out of their KJ Petrol as well.
I've only had mine for 2 weeks but the economy is TERRIBLE. Its my wifes car and maybe (definately) she has a lead foot but we can only get around 19l/100km or 340km to a tank. Wierd thing was, when I took it off-road the economy was not much less, getting 20l/100km with about 50% of that low range stuff.

s*** 19l/100km u have swayed me alot if the cherokee, is like that. Thats is massive in drinking..and I mean heaps. A Prado is only 13.8l/100kms, yet its a heavier car and has more KW hmmmm....getting abit worried now if that is true. There arnt many cars that can beat 19l/100kms thats for sure.

A worried Gabes

Maybe it is just your wife

I can get that bad too if I use the throttle as a foot rest!
If you take off like a spooked cat and brake like a dog at the end of his leash then it will refect in the mileage big time!

You must also give it time to brake in as remember mine dropping over the first 25,000
