I love my Rubicon, if it was available in diesel - I would have picked the diesel. Going off topic now, sounds like what you need is the Diesel sport anyhow Canoe, good luck with it!

I have a diesel and one thing it is not is sluggish.
I live in Bunbury and as the saying goes down here everything is 2 mins away in Bunbury. I do nothing but stop start driving and the diesel has the torque to shove me around effortlessly all day.

I will say don't expect great millage out of the diesel auto around town but it will still be better than the petrol.

Also isn't there a thread around here somewhere about how gutless the petrol is?

Yeah goes without saying hey. A bit over a year, with around 25k on the clock, i'm averaging 15L/100KM mixed city/highway driving - with muddies on. Not too bad, and like someone mentioned earlier - you don't by a JK or Wrangler with fuel economy in mind...it is a bonus though with the Diesel. Buy it for the fun you get out of it.

I am going to keep my JK long term and I am confident of the engine exceeding 300,000ks if taken care of. Not to sure whether you would get the same out of the Petrol.
Umm if it's a decent diesel it should be good for a l;ot more than 300,000km, that's the life of a decent petrol engine
Don't the diesels have some ridiculous dual mass flywheel that has counterweights & stuff spinning inside it, and isn't machinable or did they fir it to petrol Rubicons too?
I like the petrol, never even drove the diesel as it wasn't a Rubicon option. But you could use the money saved I suppose to buy a front Dana44 and lockers. maybe a 4:1 transfer case.
The steel bars and rock rails in the Adventure pack are good value too and beefy.

The petrol sems to be lacking bottom end grunt a bit but can rev ok and the 4:1 gearing negates any bottom end torque issues offroad
