This i a reply from Novak's in the US who convert XJ's

Hi Greg,

Interesting discussion. I don't think we really want the body to not twist. AMC designed the frames and even the mounts to do that within reason. We have designed the frame brackets to very nicely spread out the load over a good sized section of the unibody frame (and the thicker portions of it, I will add) for strength. Once that is accomplished, we rely on the nitrile isolators to absorb some of the twist that occurs, especially in off-roading environments.

I drive a 5.3L V8 Cherokee every day and we have a Commanche here as well, and they do very, very well. They feel tight, stable and there has been no evidence of distortion.

I would not fish-plate the frame rails. Truly. I don't think this is a good idea. I have seen some nice internal cages that can help stiffen the body up. In extreme twist environments where individuals don't want the doors to misalign and the glass to pop out
