Hey peeps. Here's a little info for you to make up your own minds - a few myths and false conclusions out there on the WK2 info.
The factory WK2 shocks ride quiet and beautiful - excellent road manners and handling even when loaded up for trips and accessories on board - this is surprising given that traditionally, say compared to a JK, when loaded up a stock JK rides like a bag of dicks - The JK needs all the help it can get when loaded up and accessorised.
The WK2 stock shocks have had noisy problems in the rear mainly due to the mechanical noises within the rear shocks which have slowly been superseded over the years. The amount of grey nomads I've had through my shop door complaining about the rear shocks is ridiculous - they THINK they have the noisy shocks as they read too much BS on forums and the like but after a test drive around the block so to speak I can assure them they don't. The problem is rarer than the propaganda surrounding it. Only the Nivomats seems to have the noise however its not as many as people think. The fundamental design of the actual rear suspension unfortunately means it does have a slightly "thuddy" nature to the way it transmits noise into the cabin - light weight aluminium lower cradle arms - very common European SUV and Wagon designs.
Our coils are all Australian made by our manufacturer King Springs and made to our own specs and designs - they are not borrowed or copied or remotely the same as the competitions coils. We are also the only company to provide a Lifetime Warranty on our coils due to the inherent strength we build into the design. We have also just upgraded our front design purely to make the install quicker and able to be done on any spring coil compressing machine - the current design of the WK2 front coil (even stock) means its very tall and takes a lot to compress it in a machine, to add to this the internal anti top out spring that's inside the strut retracts once undone and makes it seriously difficult to get back out when trying to do the strut up! So we've redesigned the coil to allow for an easier fitment process - it also doesn't contact the upper control arm like BOTH of the competitions coils do. This is another valid point.
So far we've removed quite a few YELLOW struts and coils including the weird Blue/Aqua coloured coils due to the inconsistent heights, noisy clucking suspension, stiff riding shocks/ride quality and coil binding on the arms and lower platform. We have even removed some from trade customers vehicles and put ours in. We have even had front CV's bought into us from the competitions which have popped out and or been damaged during installation as their struts are actually too long for the vehicle which hyperextends the CV and causes the damage - it also brings the coil into contact with the upper A Arm. I could go on about more issues buy I digress.
Yes the stock front struts have had issues folding the lower leg in during complete bottom outs - this is rare in occurrence but has happened - even to my own vehicle when lent out for a journalist's test drive evaluation when doing a story on our WK2!! It only happens when the driver doesn't see a huge wash out or drop off when flying along offroad and completely bottoms out the front end under load with speed. I don't blame the strut for failing in those instances as its driver error creating the problem. There's a lot of tonnage going through that lower leg in the milliseconds that the incident occurs and its got no where to go - this is no different from a JK bottoming out and bending the diff which is WAY more common than a WK2 leg collapsing.
We are waiting for the market leaders Bilstein to release their new struts for the WK2. We only deal with and use the American Bilsteins - Designed by American Bilstein Engineer's for American cars. We've found in the past the German made and engineered Bilstein shocks are far too stiff for the US Jeeps.
If you want a levelling coil for your WK2 just to lift the nose up, we do plenty of those as well - want a 40mm lift only? Yep we do can do that as well, in fact in the past we haven't really offered it on our website but we're about to list that as an available kit too.
If you have any further questions or doubts pls feel free to give us a call on 07 3205 5011.
I hope this helps.
