Bit more research suggests the V8's are very sensitive to overheating and not doing regular oil changes. So at least I know what to look for.

Were the HO motors any different? Better?

I've had the V8 for 15yrs, no worries mate, it just flies when you put the pedal to the metal. HO even better, an extra 30horses, increased torque.

The engine's good just worry about fixing the wobbly ride. Do you plan to go off-road ? If so, what grade? Light/medium/hard?

Yeah I probably won't do a lot of off road. Will be my Sydney work daily, and for towing up to a dozen times a year. Might go up the snow or up the beach in it, but I doubt I'll be doing any full on 4wding. So won't need any lift kits or fancy suspension

No problems with towing. You may need a trans cooler to keep it going in summer and long drives.

I don't do much towing. Got bored with the boat some 12 years ago as I enjoy the Kayak better. My box trailer is fairly light and the last time I towed it was Jambo '12. The wife and I usually go without the trailer and pitch the tent up....easy.

The knowledge base on the WJ/G is huge so you can just do a search on almost any problem you might encounter.

It's a fun vehicle and hope you enjoy and love it.

Where in the world are you located?

HO is a stronger motor in the areas that are commonly required for extra performance but as far as overheating and oiling go it is the same base motor so can have the same issues and requires the same maintenance/care. No better, no worse.

If that is your planned use in reality I'm not sure the benefits outweigh the risks in relation to the CRD.
