My wife wants me to forget about the JK. The way she sees it, if DC is going to be all secretive and not confirm what will (or won't) be available then maybe we'd be better off buying another brand.
We knew mid last year that the 2007 Prado would be released with all the features it comes with (ie: 5 speed auto, 3.0 D4D engine, trim and spec levels - even knew that leather would be available as an option on the GXL model). On the face of it, the Prado would probably make a great family wagon / tourer. Only real downside is the high price they're asking for that 'Toyota' badge on the tailgate.
This week I was offered a test drive of the new DiD Pajero (demo model is even fitted with the optional rear diff lock). Available in 100" SWB and 110" (I think) LWB. Looks nice inside, but has a pretty crap low range (1.9:1). Also has a funny shape front end which doesn't seem to allow an aftermarket replacement bullbar to be fitted. It's unlikely that I'd buy a Pajero.
After living with Subarus for years and wearing my brake pads hard whenever I descend off-road due to the piss poor low range, I really would like to have a snail-like, less than walking pace, slower than a week of wet Sundays, heavy duty transfer case and lockers. Hence my interest in the Rubicon which comes with the 4:1 transfer case.
However, if the Rubicon is not going to come with the CRD engine, then it seems I'm going to have to look at the Sport or Renegade. I've had a look on jeep.com but can't work out from the spec charts what the standard transfer case ratios are - anyone know?
Damn, this waiting is frustrating. If the wharfies go on strike, I'll kill 'em.
