what are the legalities of cutting the bonnet yom ?

In QLD cutting the structure of the bonnet (the thicker, shaped press metal bits underneath attached to the skin) will earn you a defect and risks voiding your insurance due to having an unroadworthy vehicle.

This is especially not good if you hit a pedestrian.

Its pretty daft when you think about it but even though I don't plan on hitting any pedestrians I decided it wasn't worth the potential hassles.

so are you saying this new mopar/aev snorkel is illegal in qld ?

i wouldnt have thought that cuting such a small piece out of the bonnet would alter the structural integrity at all .

does the paint warranty on the get voided after snorkel fitment due to increased risk of rust due to panel modification ? or will mopar release a snorkel compatible bonnet to suit the newly released mopar/aev snorkel ?

If Mopar have put their brand on it for retail in Australia I would say they have found that the bracket they've added around the cut has been sufficient to return the rigidity of the bonnet back to standard following the cut.

but surely the only way to increase the structural integrity after the cut is to either weld or bolt a gusset in place would it not ?

or is the rubber trimming around the cut sufficient ?

i guess now the aev snorkel owners have a good argument to push there resident scumbag dealer to honour their warranties now too .

AFAIK there is a metal bracket which is riveted to the bonnet along with the rubber.

It is a metal bracket that is pop rivetted to bonnet, I'd say that paint wise you'd be looking at exactly the same deal when arb fits a snorkel to your vehicle, as long as it's treated properly at time of installation there shouldn't be a drama.
