I had this one for my TJ, just sold it off.
Only because I didn't use it enough and probably going to make a trailer.
A rack really opens up what you can do with a TJ. This photo is from a week long camping trip with the outlaws. (four adults, food, grog, tents, chairs etc...)
As for fishing rods, bullbar mounted holders are the way to go.

Harry, dont take this the wrong way, but it is going to sound a bit direct.

Just buy a TJ.

You obviously have your heart set on one, and everytime someone recomends something else you bring it back to a TJ, so buy it, you want it, it suits 95% of your needs . . you'll cope with the other 5%, thats what we all do on here.

Yeah mate you're right 'Cj's TJ', i have developed a definite obsession with the TJ's, thats a very good charecter assesment on your behalf. As you can imagine i'am probably justified in my queries if i had an endless budget then i wouldn't be asking! I just don't want to rush into a huge mistake having said that i don't believe anyone could call a TJ a mistake and from those images of OIIIO's camping set up i should be right! I have devised a plan within my own mind to compensate for the lack of space.
1. If taking the boat away chuck all my camping gear in that, No worries.
2. Buy a roof rack where i can store just about everything, extra fuel when touring can be chucked in a jerry can in the back. Or i have been checking out these cool brackets i can mount of the back of the pint sized truck which look cool and practical.
3. Hard tops take away all my winter worries.
4. I will be driving so i really couldn't care less of the comfort of my rearward passangers, Hahaha thats the wrngler spirit isn't it.
5. Rod racks are the least of my worries just chuck them on the roof!
6. I like to think i'm the bare essentials type of guy so i could probably get away with a TJ.

Still thinking but i think i'm now leaning toward the TJ's, i still can be cnvinced otherwise so keep trying XJ owners!
Also OIIIO i was sure those bar mount rod holders are illegal in Victoria, had you heard anything about this?

For those who were asking i' am from the Garden state, in Melbourne!

Thanks again Harry

I think there are illegal everywhere, if they are empty. (no rods)

could be wrong! I normally just tie them down up top anyway.

Not so with the CRD JK, plenty of torque and plenty of room with the rear seats removed.
