Were Wranglers, CJ, TJ & JK really complianced to have no doors as an option? Crash tested with doors and without? Has anyone got the info on what on the ADR plate of a Wrangler specifically says it doesn't legally need doors in this country? It would have to be something that says this vehicle was teested to comply to all ADR's without the doors fitted, which of course it couldn't because of no mirrors for a start, but is there something that says with mirror relocation it complies to all ADR standards? If we can find that then we can show that to the cops and they would have to accept it.
I'm thinking it doesn't really exist, and having no doors on a Wrangler is no different than taking them off a Sierra, Defender, SWB40 Cruiser or G60 Patrol, maybe even MQ Shorty. They're all used in other countries without doors and they are just as easy to remove as Wrangler doors and have no intrusion bars.
All we officially have so far is the window stickers shown in this thread, I don't see any references to their ADR compliance for road use in them. To me they more seem about Jeep covering their butt by informing you that the doors don't provide side impact protection, so you can't sue them when you are injured from a side impact, you can't say you didn't know there was no side impact protection, it's the same with the windscreen, they are saying without the windscreen and bars you have reduced rollover protection to cover their butt in court, not to state it's legal to drive like that.
Bottom line is someone takes the doors off and a passenger gets seriously injured or killed and the insurance wipes their hands of it or drags the driver into court because the doors were removed, what can be presented in court to save the drivers butt or liability for the medical bills? What if the injured was a friend or loved one in someone else's vehicle with no doors? The door could be the difference between a wheelchair for life and a limp. I doubt the windscreen stickers in this thread will cut it legally other than absolve Jeep from any blame.
