Default Margaret River for the weekend

I went to Margaret River (WA) a couple of weeks ago and found a spot that you can only get to by 4 wheel drive. All the local fisherman knew about it though! Even though it is not marked on any map, the sign said it was called Cape Mentelle, which is obviously what the local winery of the same name is named after. It was muddy an slippery but nothing treacherous

On the way, after the muddy road, it became grassy and easy going:

The view when we got there, taken with the good camera:

Needed a wash:

Next mission down there is to check out a cave I spotted on hi-res ariel photography, that has no tracks leading to it yet. It's a blob on google maps and not on any list of caves that I can find, so it will be a fun mission for us in the KK. If it's a good find, then I will fly my (yet to arrive) drone down into it to do some pre-exploration hehe. Stay tune for pics

G'day,

Loving this thread. I've learned a lot from your posts so thanks and the pictures arnt too shabby.

Thought I'd add a pic of my three week old KK Limited 70th anv 2011. 32,000km petrol. Excuse the iphone quality.

I'm in processing of ordering parts for the build up. Hoping to have him ready for an August trip after a long dry July...

Retired my 4x4 Trition to get this beastie, can't wait to start wheeling it about.

Welcome hopwrecked. 32,000km! That is some lows K's. Nice buy. Quite a few of us have a 2011 Ltd here. Mine looked just like yours in December (only 87,000km!) but has undergone an upgrade transformation like many other cool KK's on this forum. Make sure you get some good photos now, before the upgrade so you can show before and after shots. I forgot to do that and I wish I did. What area are you in, and what are your upgrade plans?

Yours is looking pretty tough flashy. Perth. Anything you wish you had done differently? How do you find the ride with your lift kit?

I'm still short listing what goodies will get a gig but I'm 99% on the Uneek bullbar with bash plate, CRDSTU 04HD + 05HD, A Murchison Steering rack brace kit, JBA upper control arms, Haymen Reece tow hitch (for my dingy or 4x4 trailer).

New wheels and treads but I have not selected anything. Could you picture these on a KK http://www.tyresales.com.au/buy/tyre...0?q=4#moreinfo at only twice my budget and oh so fuel economic...just dreaming

I'm also considering front and rear lockers and a gearing upgrade (4.56) and bearings but that's not gonna be cheap and I don't want to get air lockers over Es and regret it- more thought on this for sure.

Question for anyone, are there places with similar focus and passion as Murchison? They seem extremely good service and range wise where as other places I've called or searched don't seem to have much for the KK..

Hey another Perth KK! me too. I have the Uneek bullbar with bash plate and it is awesome. I also have the CRDSTU 04HD + 05HD and JBA upper control arms and the handling is so much better! I just got a Mopar tow hitch from a wrecker because I heard that it has more clearance than the Reece one. Not sure if that is true though, as I only use it as a recovery point.

I'd highly recommend bash plates, which was Mikzor's advice to me. The first day I went out in some rough stuff, they paid for themselves.

I am just waiting on the second part of my delivery of an Eaton Front e-locker and rear Detroit trutrack. There is no rear e-locker available from Eaton. I decided on changing to 4.11 in the process because my wheels are 30.5" diameter instead of 29.1" stock. I was advised (and this is purely an opinion) that 4.56 is just too low if you drive the KK mainly for daily driving on road. Other will possibly disagree though. I will post it up when the final parts arrive (it has been over 3 months this order process because it was shipping by sea).

Couple of quick pics from last weekends "Independent's Day" 4th July trip that Murchison products holds each year, getting the IFS rigs out for a wheel together! We had 2 x KKs, 3x WK2s and WH.

I've gone to 3 out of the last 4 (only missed one due to busted axle... discovered on Stu's driveway the morning of the run lol) and can't wait to go again next year. Highly recommend trying to make the weekend next year.

*Thanks to Stu and Brendan for these pics.

Nice poser shot to start the day

Heading into Claw Gorge, a nice rocky run with several little water crossing.

Brendan showed me a comparison shot of his KK in the same spot with his rear wheel still touching thanks to his rear swaybar removal setup.... just to rub it in.

Just the 6 of us this year, but we still had a blast, tackling some tracks and talking Jeeps around the campfire.

Great shot of Brendan's KK

Great shots from Stu and Brendan. Those 2 KK's are clearly the best looking of the IFS gathering. Love to see that comparison shot of Brendan's. Almost surprised you haven't removed your rear sway yet Mik, seems a very popular mod in the U.S.
